SD協會於2000年1月成立，為一個全球性的產業體系，致力於制訂引領產業發展SD記憶卡技術和規格的標準，並持續推廣此規格的應用與促進SD記憶卡與設備製造商依照此標準製造相容的記憶卡與裝置，例如數位A / V，無線通訊和數位網路等產品就採用了許多SD標準獨特的優勢。SDA工作委員會不僅定義產品規格與推動SD技術；同時與其全球超過1000間企業會員共同合作，從而增強產品之功能和迅速擴大市場版圖。
